Welcome to Gastonia, NC!
Situated near the border of North and South Carolina, the town of Gastonia is part of the Greater Charlotte metropolitan area. The Catawba Indians were the first inhabitants of the area, and in the eighteenth century the town grew rapidly as German, Scottish, and Irish immigrants moved down from the north in search of better farm land. The history of all these peoples can be explored at the renowned Schiele Museum of Natural History, which houses numerous permanent exhibits as well as a large planetarium. Those more interested in military history can visit the American Military Museum, which is home to one of the largest collections of Civil War artifacts in the state. For outdoor enthusiasts, The Daniel Stowe Botanical Garden in the heart of the town spans more than 450 acres (182 ha). What began in 1989 as one man's ambition is now a four season garden with unique old southern character. The beauty of these gardens can be appreciated by arboreta lovers, as well as those who know little of flower and plant life. Gastonia is also home to the Carolina Harley-Davidson Buell. Their large collection of parts, clothing, and classic bikes will occupy any Harley lover for hours. Whether visitors want to explore downtown streets, learn some history, or simply enjoy the sunshine, Gastonia has much to offer.Tourist Attractions
